I’ve worked with universities and colleges for more than two decades, providing a range of services from turnkey creation of online and in-person courses to the development of marketing materials, major grant proposals, and press releases. I am currently working with academic SMEs to develop interactive, online courses at the graduate level.
Developing and Building Graduate Course Content on Blackboard
As a recent graduate of the Instructional Technology Certificate Program at the University of Massachusetts (Boston) Graduate School of Education and Development, I was tapped to help reconceive and rebuild a cornerstone course in the Instructional Design Department. I worked closely with a professor to update content, redesign the user experience, and rethink assignments, schedules, and outcomes. As decisions were made, I created new course elements on Blackboard, edited and revised copy, and provided advice for making content more accessible for graduate students new to the online learning experience.
Creating Professional Courses from Scratch at Drexel University
The Goodwin College of Professional Studies at Drexel University offers a wide range of courses and programs for working adults. When I was asked to create some of their first online courses, I was ready for the challenge. The courses would train nonprofit managers in grant writing, program evaluation, and donor stewardship—topics I had taught in-person at the University of Pennsylvania. All three courses were reconceived for online learning and created using Camtasia and PowerPoint. All, in addition, provided a combination of direct instruction, case study, self-assessment, and real-world project work.
Marketing Graduate Programs at the University of Pennsylvania
The University of Pennsylvania creates innovative Masters-level programs that leverage the institution’s resources on many levels. I was asked to take on the development of outreach materials to market two new programs. The first, a program in Urban Spatial Analysis, was an innovative blend of GIS technology and public health management. The second, a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology, built on the groundbreaking work of Professor Martin Seligman. In both cases, my work involved multiple interviews with lead professors and the development of compelling content on highly technical topics.
